Video animation, interactive website and 350-page Guide in English and French
I was approached by the United Nations' International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to develop a 5 minute animation summarising the results of a conference for field experts, which took place in February 2021. Working with IOM and UNODC, the video above was developed, to illustrate the challenges affecting migrants in the North African route to Europe, and offer professionals working in this area with a greater understanding of existing current efforts, cooperation mechanisms, and challenges. I worked with IOM and the UNODC (the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) to carefully develop a script with the key points from the conference report. This was then animated using Premiere Pro and After Effects, and a soundtrack and voice over were added. The result is a fast-paced video that delivers all the key messages, while being engaging and informative to watch.
To present the detailed results of report on efforts by different countries to tackle trafficking and smuggling of persons, the Niamey Declaration Guide website was developed. A custom navigation was developed to display Country and Regional profiles, allowing users to browse by specific intervention across different countries. The website also provides a Members' area, to allow for advanced Forum discussions, as well as project-specific documents and videos. The website is available in English and French.
The website features a customised, approachable, easy-to-use UX concept. It enables professionals involved in international counter-trafficking efforts to quickly access information on a particular country of interest, sub-divided into common topics such as Action Plan, Legislation, Institutional Framework, etc. The same can accessed for the Regional Profiles (cross-national mechanisms). The website is fully responsive and dynamic, enabling easy editing and administration on the back-end, while delivering a great experience on either mobile, tablet or desktop.
The website also features a Member's Area, enabling team members to access an invitation-only space with documents, videos and more. The documentation and videos include all the presentations and debates at the occasion of the Conference on Combating trafficking of persons and migrant smuggling through better internal and regional cooperation on protection and border management - which was held online in February 2021, to circumvent the COVID-19 isolation restrictions at the time.
A detailed report on all the existing mechanisms and legal frameworks relating to the trafficking of migrants (central theme of the Niamey Declaration) was written by one of the experts at the conference. I was asked to design the report, transforming it into a beautiful, engaging and practical product that could be easily shared among key stakeholders, and used as a Guide to anyone seeking to understand the landscape before making interventions. The Guide presents a common structure across all Countries studied, as well as across the Regional Mechanisms investigated. It is meant as a quick-navigation Guide that can take the user directly to the relevant legislation in each country. Differently from the online website version, the printed Guide also features direct contact information to the relevant national, regional and international authorities involved in the administration of key areas in this field of work. The Guide is available in English and French.
